The daily color game
Shade is a small, free game about color perception. Each day it shows five target colors and challenges you to match them using hue, saturation and lightness sliders. It's a quick way to train your eye — useful practice if you work with color (design, photography, painting) and a fun daily habit if you don't.
Most people are better at telling colors apart than at reproducing them from memory or by feel. Matching a target forces you to reason about a color's three dimensions separately — its hue, how saturated it is, and how light or dark. Over a few days you start seeing those dimensions independently, which is exactly the skill that makes color work faster.
Guesses are graded by perceptual distance (ΔE) rather than raw RGB difference, so the score reflects how far off your match actually looks. A new deterministic puzzle drops every day at midnight UTC, the same for every player, and you can share a spoiler-free emoji grid of how you did.
Shade runs entirely in your browser. Your streak and scores are stored privately on your device. Nothing to install, no account, no ads.
